Community Service Requirements & Report

As a requirement for graduation from Cascia Hall, Upper School students are required to complete 100 hours of community service. The purpose of this requirement is to instill in the students the values of service and concern for one’s neighbor, school, and community. The requirement also provides opportunities for the students to live out Cascia Hall’s core values of Truth, Unity and Love and thus experience the joy and satisfaction of giving of one’s self.

Sufficient opportunities for service will be provided by the Campus Ministry office; however, each student has the responsibility to make any and all necessary arrangements in the fulfillment of his or her hours. This personal responsibility includes contacting the person responsible for the job, obtaining a “service hour form” from the Campus Ministry or one of the school offices, carrying through on the commitment, and returning the service hour form, properly completed and signed, to the receptionist desk located outside the Headmaster’s Office.

The 100 hours must be divided into the following areas:

  • 60 hours of service must be given to the local community outside of Cascia Hall;
  • 10 hours of service must be given to church (either to one’s own parish/church or to other church sponsored activities);
  • 30 hours must be given in contribution to Cascia Hall (Christmas Walk, Celebrate Cascia, retreat leader, for example). Hours over and above the required 30 in this area may be added to service given to the local community outside of Cascia Hall.

Each year, students will be credited with the total number of hours that were fulfilled during that particular year. Regardless of the total number of service hours, each student must complete a minimum of 10 hours of service per year. i.e. If a sophomore has completed 137 hours of service, he/she still must complete a minimum of 10 hours of service for junior year and 10 hours of service for senior year. If the minimum number of service hours is not fulfilled, a student’s grades and transcript will be held until this obligation has been met. If any doubt exists as to the legitimacy of certain service or hours, the determination will be made by the Campus Minister

Service performed over the summer for the following school year must be turned in by September 1st. All other service performed during the course of the school year must be turned in within one month of the completion of that service. Credit will not be given to service reports turned in outside of these time frames. Students who transfer in during their sophomore, junior or senior year will have their service hour requirement adjusted accordingly. Seniors must have all required hours completed and turned in by May 15th of their senior year.

Any questions about this program are to be directed to the Campus Ministry office.
