Upper School Play – October 13th and 15th, 2011
That Bamboozler, Scapin by Jeff Barker.

The show is the story of Molly Aihre’s senior project. She is doing a 17th century Moliere play with herself cast in the lead role of Scapin, a cunning servant who is also playing matchmaker for two young men. Of course, as all typical Moliere plays do, the story ends happily and everything works out although not without hilarity and mishaps, fun and games, and cons and twists that will keep the audience laughing. As for the modern day characters doing this play, they have their own troubles with an unfinished script, charges of theft, lack of direction, and audience members running amok. All in all it makes for a hilarious farce that is a great time for the cast, the crew, and the audience.

Charley’s Aunt by Brandon Thomas

All Charley and Jack wanted to do was spend some time with their sweethearts, but in 19th century England you don’t just take a girl out for coffee, you must have a chaperone. Enter Charley’s Aunt, a wealthy widow who just happens to be coming to visit Charley…what better solution than lunch with the girls under the watchful eye of Charley’s Aunt? All they need is someone to distract the aunt after lunch so they can propose to their intended brides. Enter Lord Fancourt Babberly, or Babs as they call him, a young friend of both Charley and Jack. They persuade him to come to lunch and engage the aunt in conversation, and he finally agrees. Unfortunately, as soon as everything is settled, a telegram arrives informing Charley that his aunt has been delayed. Since the two young men are desperate they persuade Babs to dress up as the aunt…and hilarity ensues as the young men try to propose to their girls, unexpected visitors arrive, and mix-ups and mess-ups abound. However, romance triumphs in this delightful romp through Regency English society.
